01 / A geography of evidence

Known cities.
Honest unknowns.

02 / Read the point

A little context.
Not a location reveal.

Hover or tap a city dot.
The directory works without 3D.

Counts refer to public records, not a complete network census. A registry stake represents an operator, not necessarily one node. User membership stakes are a separate count.

03 / Reproducible, not hand-placed

public trail.

The build fetches the public Sepolia deployment record, reads GatewayRegistry and StakedReputationSet at one block, and requests each Elder's public directory over Tor. Directory signatures are checked against the published signer pins. Public node descriptors are fetched without credentials. Duplicate hidden-service identities are counted once.

Only an explicitly published public address can produce a city. IPWho.is provides city, country and ASN organization. Coordinates are rounded to one decimal before export; co-located records are clustered. Provider class is conservatively inferred from the network organization, not a hardware attestation.

Current and historical are not interchangeable. The legacy public directory is retired. The October egress test is a dated observation. Their published exit addresses can be geolocated, but are not joined to today's hidden-service identities or counted as current nodes.

The site publishes no node addresses, hostnames, credentials or exact coordinates. The browser only fetches sanitized local assets, never node endpoints or GeoIP services.

Coverage, accuracy & security limits

    Directory membership is an observation, not a health guarantee. A failed Elder fetch reduces coverage. GeoIP can reflect a provider's registered city rather than the machine's physical location, and older addresses may have changed hands.

    ShadeNet is an unaudited research preview on Sepolia. Staking is economic admission, not proof of integrity. Do not use it for real funds or sensitive traffic.

    Design: ShadeNet site styles, tree mark and glyph grove. Globe: Three.js (MIT) and Natural Earth land (public domain). No analytics or third-party runtime requests.
